PRESS RELEASE
Gladiator Performances at the Jerash Hippodrome

Amman, May 24, 2005

The Roman Army and Chariot Experience (RACE) show now includes four pairs of gladiators fighting with traditional weapons and armour. The gladiators, ex Jordanian Army Special Forces, were specially trained in Jerash by two stuntmen from England, Mr. Mark Griffin and Mr. Wayne de Strete.

On May 9, HRH Prince Raad Bin Zeid and HRH Princess Majda Raad were guests of honour at a special performance organised for a group of 150 incentive travel decision makers from around the world on a visit to Jordan as guests of the Jordan Tourism Board.

The performance included forty-five fully equipped legionaries demonstrating their weapons and their usage and executing various battle formations. Martial music on the recently installed massive sound system supported the show. Mr. Howard Giles, scriptwriter and director, engaged by RACE for his extensive know-how, brought the event to life with his commentary.

Following the Roman Army, the gladiators entered the arena and fought, two at a time, truly making the audience go wild.

The last act of the show included one of the chariots pulled by two gray horses circling around the spina (middle barrier) for a glimpse of this the greatest spectator sport of all times. A parade of all participants concluded the event.

Daily shows will be presented from early June, whereas the official opening will take place in late September of this year.
